[20 Oct] Thinking bigger, unstuck yourself, and tips on leading a life with less stress

 Overview:

Young entrepreneurs are often encouraged to think positive and pursue big goals. Investors too seek entrepreneurs who are passionate about their work and fully committed to achieving their goals. But, are these practices the right way for achieving success and/or living a happy life? The presentation will address these issues by drawing insights from empirical research in the field of Psychology as well as theoretical knowledge from Philosophy and other disciplines.

Speaker: Marios Avraamides, Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the University of Cyprus and Pillar Leader of Human Factors & Design at the CYENS Centre of Excellence

Marios Avraamides is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the University of Cyprus where he directs the Experimental Psychology Lab (www.experimentalpsych.com). He is also the Pillar Leader of Human Factors & Design at the CYENS Centre of Excellence. He holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and an MSc and a PhD degree in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining the University of Cyprus, he had worked at the University of California Santa Barbara (USA) and at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics (Germany), carrying out research with Virtual Reality. At the University of Cyprus, Marios conducts basic research on the cognitive mechanisms that support memory, attention, and perception using Virtual Reality. At CYENS, he carries out applied work that focuses on developing innovative cognitive and clinical applications. He has been the PI on a number of international and local funded projects, including a prestigious ERC starting grant and 2 ERC Proof of Concept grants.
